X Blocks 3,500 Posts, Deletes 600 Accounts After India Flags Obscene Grok Content (Open Ai)

New Delhi: Social media platform X has blocked more than 3,500 posts in the country and deleted more than 600 accounts. This step was taken after the government's crackdown, in which X was asked to respond to the obscene and objectionable content being created by its AI chatbot Grok.

This action has come at a time when the Central Government had given clear instructions to X Corp to file an Action Taken Report in the case related to Grok. X Corp is the company of billionaire businessman Elon Musk. Sources say that the company “admitted its mistake” to the government and assured that obscene images or content will not be allowed to be created on the platform in the future.

Why did the government object?

On January 2, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had written a letter to X pointing out serious flaws. The ministry said that the platform had failed to stop sexually explicit content from being created through its AI tools. The officials had clearly stated that “the law of the country is supreme,” and no platform can be considered above it.

What kind of warning was given to X?

The government had also warned officials had hinted that similar action could be taken against AI chatbots running on other platforms, not just X.

What is the government's stance regarding Grok?

Government officials have clarified that Grok cannot be considered a “neutral platform tool.” He says that Grok is a content creator. The only difference is that he is not a human being but artificial intelligence. According to the government, when an AI itself is creating content, its responsibility will also be fixed.

Why did the government not find X's answer satisfactory?

According to sources, X responded to the ministry's letter five days later. However, the government was not satisfied with this answer. An official said that

Is India the only country to raise questions on Grok?

Before India, Indonesia had taken strict action regarding Grok, and this chatbot had been temporarily suspended there. Apart from this, the United Kingdom, France, and Malaysia have also expressed objection regarding obscene content created by AI.

It is clear from the government's stance that monitoring of AI-based platforms may become more stringent in the future. The latest steps taken by
